Assignment Details
• Start/end: ASAP - ongoing
• Schedule: Call-only coverage; specific dates TBD
• Coverage type: Inpatient Call Only
• Call type: Beeper
• Call ratio: 1:2
• Call response time: 30 minutes
• Callback: Approximately 2%
• Patient volume: Approximately 3-6 patients during call
• Admissions: Approximately 1
• Phone consultations: 1-2; PAs take first call
• Setting: Inpatient, Level II Trauma Center
• Department: 6 beds listed
• Rounding: Assigned and unassigned patients
• Support: 4 PAs; physician supervision required
• EMR: Cerner
• Credentialing: Approximately 90 days; temporary privileges available
Clinical Details
• General open and endoscopic cardiothoracic surgery
• Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), on-pump and off-pump
• Congenital cardiac defect repair, including ASD, VSD, and PFO
• Cardiac valve repair and replacement
• Cardiac and thoracic aortic aneurysm repair
• Chest wall and pleural procedures
• Ventilator management
• Acute volume and blood pressure management
• Central and arterial line placement
• Pulmonary artery catheter placement
• Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) insertion
• Lung resection/VATS experience preferred
• TAVR experience preferred
• Esophageal and diaphragm surgery experience preferred
• Carotid endarterectomy experience preferred
• General vascular surgery not required
Requirements
• Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Active South Carolina medical license or IMLC eligibility
• ACLS required
• BLS required
• Experience with CABG, valve surgery, and complex cardiothoracic procedures
• Proficiency in required invasive monitoring and hemodynamic management
• Ability to supervise PAs
• Availability for 1:2 beeper call coverage
• Ability to respond within 30 minutes
